Educational Links

Companion Website for CCEE Programs

  • Mathematics & Economics: Connections For Life - This web site was designed to help support the usage of both the Grades 9-12, Grades 6-8, and Grades 3-4 materials in the classroom.

  • Financial Fitness for Life - A new multifaceted, comprehensive economic and financial literacy program for grades K-12. Throughout this web site you'll find valuable information about the different components of the program and how teachers, parents, and students can put the materials to use.

Economics and Personal Finance Lesson Plans and Resources

  • Council for Economic Education  - Is a source of teacher training, educational materials and curriculum reform in economics.

    • EconEdLink - EconEdLink provides a premier source of classroom-tested, Internet-based economic lesson materials for K-12 teachers and their students. With over 250 lessons to choose from, teachers can use as many of the lessons as they would like and as often as they would like.

    • E-CONnections - ECONnections contains standards-based lesson plans adapted from NCEE printed materials for the Internet with interactive activities for students. The most exciting and innovative aspect of ECONnections is its use of "volunteer experts" from The McGraw-Hill Companies.

    • EconomicsInternational - NCEE's international program, supported primarily by the U.S. Department of Education, provides educational assistance to teachers in societies in transition to market economies. NCEE also brings back insights to help teach American students valuable lessons about the global economy. We currently serve in 21 countries, and have reached over 6.4 million students since 1995.

  • Education Cents - provides higher education finance tools to help people in understanding finances

  • Federal Reserve Bank of Saint Louis - contains Great Depression curriculum, two personal finance curricula along with 17 lessons for teaching economics and children's literature

  • Federal Resources for Educational Excellence - contains many subject areas including social studies.  Example: US Great Depression through World War II including over 55,000 photographs from the Library of Congress.

  • Hands on Banking - an interactive web site with money management modules for elementary, middle and high school students, and adults

  • CSIS Globalization 101.org - dedicated to providing students with information and interdisciplinary learning opportunities on globalization.

  • EcEdWeb - Great supporting Resources and Student Projects for your economics teaching are also found in K-12 section.

  • National Budget Simulation - This simple simulation should give you a better feel of the trade-offs which policy makers need to make in creating federal budgets and dealing with deficits.

Other Social Studies

  • History Channel - contains "this day in history" and searches for any topics in history.

Data and Statistics

  • Current Economic Indicators - source of data and economic indicators collected by the Census Bureau including statistics on poverty, income, jobs, unemployment, industries and sectors, e-commerce retail, national and local economic profiles.

  • World Bank - source of the annual freedom index and teacher resources.

  • The Dismal Scientist - great site for economic statistics, calendar for latest reports on leading indicators and Fed action.

  • Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis - news and events, consumer information, banking information and financial services.

  • Federal Government Statistics

  • CIA World Factbook - incredible amounts of information on almost every country in the world.

  • National Debt - up-to-date to the penny

  • Inflation calculator - that can be calibrated for different regions of the country.  Want to know what $.28 per gallon of regular gas in 1958 costs today?

  • Gapminder World -This is one of the most innovative websites I've seen seen on showing and comparing the economic situation of countries. Simple to understand but very cleverly done.  Especially see "Gapminder World" showing income per capita, life expectance, population size, and individual countries all on one easy to read map.  Even by years, hit the "play" button and watch china's (big red circle) per capita income grow faster over the years (shown in the graph background).

Economic Games

  • Games Economists Play - Non-Computerized Classroom-Games for College Economics (113 games for both micro and macro).

Governmental Resources

  • U.S. Treasury Department - has education links (lots of kids stuff), current headlines and frequently asked questions.

  • The Mint - An easy-to-use site for middle and high school students, teachers and parents includes "Making a Budget," "Saving and Investing," "Your Role in the Economy," "Government Spending," and "Learning and Earning " that includes an informative list of jobs, required education and starting salaries.

  • The White House Online

Research in Economic Education
