This class is designed to prepare secondary mathematics teachers to teach Personal Financial Literacy in the spirit with which those academic standards were composed, incorporating both mathematical and economic ways of thinking. It is math that is context rich with real world scenarios and financial applications. Strategies for finding and taking opportunities to address the PFL standards in the context of preexisting mathematics curriculum will be discussed. Both the mathematical underpinnings of and the economic principles inherent in PFL will be thoroughly explored.

* Registration Deadline: 8 days before each class begins. Late registration (pending availability) will
be charged an additional $10.

** Optional Credit: CU at Colorado Springs (CU). Full attendance for is required to receive credit.  You will receive credit details at class.

Teachers can earn a certificate in Secondary Economic Education by taking a 12 credit-hour program offered by CCEE and CU at Colorado Springs. This program includes CCEE's Economics for Educators online class (3 credits), FTE’s Economics for Leaders residential class (3 credits), and 6 credits of elective economics or Personal Financial Literacy classes. Classes marked with the diploma icon have been pre-approved for the certificate. For more detailed information, contact CCEE’s office at 303-752-2323, 888-815-2974 toll-free, or visit www.ccee.net/certificate.htm.

The recently adopted (2010) personal financial literacy (PFL) standards are embedded in the state math and economics standards. If you wish to teach about financial planning, saving, investing, credit, insurance or any of the other PFL expectations, CCEE is here to help you with training lessons and resources...with a foundation of economic reasoning! Classes marked with the dollar sign icon are personal financial literacy topics.

1As the primary mission of CCEE is to train teachers, registration priority will be given to active teachers (including substitutes). We love to see retired teachers and even members of the general public at our seminars but a seat will be reserved for these persons on a space-available basis.

REFUND POLICY: Registration cancellations must be requested within 5 business days prior to the class start date; otherwise registration fees are non-refundable.
