Discovering the European Union:
Teaching the
Politics and the Economics
What
are the key civics and economics concepts that form the foundation and
success of the European Union? If you can’t answer that question, you will
learn the answer at this workshop. The EU model is unique in modern history
and one that will interest your students. Why else should students study the
EU? They should know that the EU has a combined GDP slightly larger than the
U.S. Internally, the EU has abolished trade barriers, adopted a common
currency, and is striving toward convergence of living standards.
Internationally, the EU aims to bolster Europe’s trade position and its
political and economic power.
