Introduction to Teaching
High School Economics
This two day course is
designed to highlight some prominent themes that would be taught in a high
school economics course. The course will be divided between micro and
macroeconomic topics. Day one will focus on the micro topics of scarcity,
choice and cost (the economic trilogy), economic systems and the
fundamentals of supply and demand. Day two will feature macro topics of
international trade, government spending and taxation (fiscal policy) and
the phenomenon of inflation (money supply). Content background will be
presented and field-tested classroom lessons will be demonstrated.

Support provided by:
Teachers can earn a certificate in Secondary
or Elementary Economic Education through a 12 credit-hour program offered by
CCEE and CU at Colorado Springs. Program includes Economics for Educators (3
credits), Methods for Teaching Economics (3 credits), and 6 credits of
elective economics classes. Classes marked with the diploma icon have
been pre-approved for the certificate.
